Did you know you can save a lot of money and get some unique pieces of furniture by purchasing thrift store furniture? It’s true! If you save a lot of money purchasing the furniture, you can always invest back into it and fix it up to look the way you want it to look!
You may be wondering, “Are there any thrift stores near?” In all likelihood, there are some thrift stores near you! Try thrift shopping at stores such as Good will and the Salvation Army. Oftentimes, you can get nice Good will furniture at extremely reasonable prices. You can also try stores like Community Aid or other small, independent thrift stores. Check out flea markets, yard sales, and auctions as well. Sometimes, you can find furniture gems in or around dumpsters! You never know where affordable thrifted furniture will be waiting!
Now, I do have some tips for you before you go thrift shopping for furniture!
One tip for purchasing thrift store furniture is to check for labels. You do not want to overpay for a piece of furniture that originally came from Walmart and likely will not hold up. It does not hurt to see if the original price tag is attached somewhere.
Test out the furniture before you buy it. If the chair or sofa is uncomfortable, it isn’t going to matter how nice it looks. You will not want to sit on it! Make sure you like it before you buy it.
Another tip is to inspect closely for stains and bugs. I imagine you probably do NOT want to bring fleas or bed bugs into your home. You also don’t want to bring a piece of furniture home only to find out that it reeks of animal urine.
Try not to buy furniture you don’t need. Be sure that what you are buying will fit into your home. If you don’t need it, hold onto your money instead!
