Save Green By Going Green

Over the last few years, everyone has been talking about going “green”. Eco friendly products are on the rise, and when buying from the store, you’re not really saving much money. There is a way, however, to go green, AND save money!

I have put together a list of my favorite “GREEN” Cleaning products for cleaning my home. These are not only friendly to the environment, you can use them around your family and pets without having to worry.

“Go Green” Disinfecting Wipes

Here’s what you need:
1 cup of vinegar
2 1/2 cups water (Boil first)
6-8 drops of essential oils (I like using a lavender or citrus)
1 roll of paper towels
Container with lid (I like those snap-lock containers that are the size of a shoe box)

Start with your paper towels. Start unrolling them and folding them in half (Accordion style). You should be able to fill the entire container with these. Mix together all of the liquid ingredients, and pour over the stack of folded paper towels (Making sure to cover all of the paper towels). It’s ok to add a little water if needed. Replace lid of container and allow to sit over night to “soak”. Viola! “Go Green” Wipes! These will clean and disinfect your counters, bathrooms, and even hands, for a fraction of the price. Plus, no chemicals!

“Go Green” Drain Cleaner

Here’s what you need:
1 cup vinegar
1 cup vinegar
5-8 cups HOT water

Add the baking soda to your drain, and immediately follow with the vinegar. Let the mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes, to break down grime. Now flush with the hot water. If you have a garbage disposal, this will work great on that, as well.

“Go Green” Toilet Cleaner

Here’s what you need:
1/2 cup baking soda
1 cup vinegar

In a large pitcher, or bowl, mix together the ingredients. Pour into your toilet and allow it to sit for around 5-20 minutes (Depending on how long you can wait. I know that in a house with little ones, waiting 20 minutes for the potty, is almost impossible…). Use a toilet brush to swish the mixture around, and lightly scrub and stuck on “Yucks”, then flush. That toilet will sparkle, and the vinegar will remove all of the odors you may have had.

By using these simple ingredients, that most households have in them, you can not only clean with a chemical free, family safe product, you can also help out the environment. Now, not only will your pocket book thank you, So will Mother Earth.
